Ala Barzinji is from Southern Kurdistan and has been a British resident since 1995. She uses food to keep alive the connection with her homeland and to teach her children about their heritage. Now with a postgraduate degree in mathematics and computing, and an interest in photography and organic gardening, Ala enjoys exploring the Kentish countryside and, of course, cooking.

Perfect and exactly what I needed!

Absolutely perfect and exactly what I was looking for! Has all the traditional names of what the dish is, how to prepare it, about spices and even Kurdish customs. Best part? Each dish as a picture so I know what it's supposed to look like! YAY!

Authentic and delicious

YUM. I bought a copy for my sister who loves to cook and needs a modified diet for her health. This is a new cuisine for her so it was interesting to see how many dishes were already somewhat familiar. The focus on fresh ingredients was perfect for her. She can get all the ingredients locally and at Whole Foods. I only wish we knew how to pronounce all the words!!! I liked that the author is actually Kurdish.

Recipe titles in English - a must

its a pity that the names of the dishes are not given also in English,
As a result its difficult to tell which dish you are reading about - especially when the cuisine is not known to you.
