About the Author
An experienced instructor in the health and fitness industry, Tim specialises in teaching the principles of exercise, nutrition and healthy eating to gym instructors and personal trainers. He is also involved in teaching fitness for disabled clients and training for older adults.
Tim has worked for London Central YMCA as a tutor in health and fitness for over 20 years. Prior to that he studied engineering, gaining a BSc in technology and an MSc in robotics. He can also boast an impressive CV of health and fitness qualifications in personal training, gym instructing, fitness training, exercise to music, nutrition and weight management, as well as specialist areas such as exercise for older adults and disabled people.
Tim's interest in nutrition began in the 1980s. Over the past three decades, he has tried most diets and food fads for himself and is now, consequently, a staunch advocate of simple, straightforward nutrition advice. This e- book written by Tim Shaw is a great resource for anyone wanting long term health benefits and are willing to discipline themselves continually. It is not a dieting book but provides the information you need to know regarding a balanced diet and how to incorporate the main food groups to work in collaboration with your metabolism. Each food group is discussed for greater clarity.
These principles are sound and will enlighten you on the do's and don'ts of healthy eating. Other areas addressed will include the following:
-why skipping breakfast is not advisable
- what is a healthy guide toward protein consumption
- Beneficial facts on fats and the truth about hydrogenated fats
- facts you need to know about sports drinks, caffeine, and alcohol

Nutrition Guide for Healthy Eating

With Christmas coming on, and a wealth of fad diets, sometimes it's lovely to get someone who actually knows what they are talking about explaining the basics of good nutrition. This book takes the concepts that I learned in school about how to eat a healthy diet, and updates and expands them.
It's a thorough book, easy to read and digest without being overly long and technical. A great layman's book to how to have good nutrition for healthy eating. I especially liked the part on drinking water and the explanations around caffeine and alcohol. I also found the details on portion size and tracking quite helpful.
I recommend it to anyone who is looking for the basics on how to become more healthy through eating well.

Changing My Habits

One big thing I've forced myself to do is eat a good breakfast. I am not hungry in the morning, but eating breakfast is important to your energy levels. I will also take the advice to eat healthy snacks between meals to keep energy high and mood positive.
Now of course I have to cut down on all the sugar in my coffee. Hmm, maybe start that tomorrow.
