I haven't gone completely through this book yet, but I have high hopes for it. What I have read so far seems solid.
It seems to be written more in an anecdotal form rather than written in a lecture or "classroom" style.
I found the "stories" helpful and thought-provoking.

A Great Resource

AMC's Guide to Outdoor Leadership is a clear, concise, and very useful resource for those who want to improve their outdoor leadership skills. This is a very practical guide: theorectical points are always illustrated with real-life examples. It has helped me to better understand my role and responsibilites as a trip leader, and shown me ways to improve my skills. I highly recommend it for volunteers and professionals alike.

One of the best in this field

There are a number of standard Outdoor Leadership Books. The focus of each frankly is similar with the basic concept explained... technical/practical skills, interpersonal skills and leadership skills. But that is where they change as to how this is presented. The original AMC Outdoor Leadership was one of the first in this area that was also readable. The is update continues in that tradition.

Nit picking....and this really applies to all of the books in this niche. They all need to consider the development of a "syllabus" of chapters or even a set of books where the study and ownership of the series completes your "education" in Outdoor Leadership. The other issue is more practical...not every one has the interpersonal skills or feel for people that is needed to be an effective outdoor leader.

The last issue is Judgement... and I don't know how to teach judgement other than providing "lots" of experiences that build on each other that in the end provide a person with the context for good judgement. And then the application of that judgement within some higher level ethical context. The AMC Outdoor Leadership provides this ethical context.

Seriously twisted but I loved it!!!

This may be one of the most erotic stories I've ever read. I loved how the story started, and just when I thought I had a handle on the torture taking place, the story shifted...and then shifted again. And I loved it. I love reading erotic horror and this new author did not disappoint. I will definitely be checking out M.J. Ferguson's other stories and eagerly awaiting the sequel to Depravity. If you like Edward Lee and Matt Shaw, I highly recommend this one!

Dark, Twisted and Kinky, Oh My!

4.5 stars - Wow, this one threw me for a bit of a loop. This twisted little tale starts off with Master/Slave that seems to be a bit non/con, but we quickly find that isn’t the case.

This is being told in the voice of the Slave, so that helps to really get his perspective on what’s happening and his real feelings about things. Even though the actions and behavior of the Master seem pretty awful, the Slave ensures us that he actually loves everything his Master does. So, you think that’s pretty much what the story is about, until wham! there is a total twist that actually had my head spinning in an attempt at understanding what was really taking place. The feeling of mental unstableness which had been looming in the back of my mind just skyrocketed. But this isn’t even the half of it. No, there is another twist that left me cringing.

I won’t give it away, but once again, the Slave tells us a story about how he came to learn about Master’s other “kink.” Let me say that it takes quite a bit to make me squeamish, but I almost didn’t make it through this part. It is pretty gory and things are more than a little effed up.

Enough about the content. Ms. Ferguson’s first debut story packs quite the punch in very few pages. The writing is smooth and the images almost too clear. It felt as though I was watching the scenes play out, as opposed to reading them. If you love horror or kink, or kinky horror, this is a fabulous example. I am almost too afraid to see where this is going to go next, but even though I might need to read with my eyes covered at some points, like a fender bender on the highway, I doubt I’ll be able to pass it by without looking.

Wow...did not see that coming.

Wow...was not expecting that. With that said, however, I love books that challenge my imagination and I love books that are able to catch me off guard, and this one did...on every element. This is about a master and his slave and their kinks. At first, I was torn because the master does some pretty harsh things to his slave. Thankfully, the author tells the story thru the slave and you realize quickly that the slave loves everything his master subjects him too. AND...then...wow...I love the twist and actually kinda whooped at the author's creativity.
But, the author has another surprise in store and I will have to say that it not only took me off guard but also pushed the boundaries of my limits. I love my dark reads, I love learning new aspects of D/s relationships, and I love being pushed to my own limits and MJ Ferguson accomplished all of that in this very short read.
This is a dark story so be prepared if you decide to take the chance. I was reading the end with one eye open and one eye closed because I needed to see where the author was going, but a little afraid also. It's hard to say that I loved this story, considering the content, but I definitely loved the power play dynamic and I admire the author for going somewhere most would not.
There will be a book 2 coming out and I know I will read it because the author has poked my curiosity. The book is short but the author was able to cover a lot of territory and she definitely gets your attention in the first few sentences. The story is well-written​, and the plot is...well, you should just read for yourself. I'm pretty sure you will be surprised by what you find.

Similar to Macaulay's Cathederal but for Adults

Like countless numbers of young people, I first became interested in the construction of cathedrals through David Macaulay's iconic children's book "Cathedral". His beautifully detailed illustrations brought medieval construction techniques to life. As an adult, I still love Macaulay's work but as a children's book, it can only carry you so far. Malcolm Hislop's "How to Buid a Cathedral" takes medieval construction to a much higher level. Hislop uses scores of richly detailed illustrations to explain the building technologies of the Middle Ages. In preparing this book, Hislop was able to draw upon beautifully detailed line drawings from Nineteenth Century sources. The other great virture of this book is that Hislop writes for the general public. This is a great book that is reasonably priced. Highly recommended!

This is the book I had been looking for since I saw it in a local book store, but unfortunately, did not purchase at the time. It gives very "in depth" descriptions of the design, layout and construction techniques at the time. The illustrations are fantastic in their detail and the description of the subject. I am amazed at how much detail was carved into the stone and can understand why it took generations to complete the construction. I highly recommend this book for anyone who who has an interest in the design and construction techniques of the period.
